49ers release veteran cornerback Hall who signed last week [report]

A week after signing veteran cornerback Leon Hall, his time with the 49ers is over before stepping foot on the field, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Hall, 32, was signed by the team before last week’s game in Washington, but was declared inactive. It was assumed that Hall was brought in to privide an established presence to a young, and inconsistant 49ers’ cornerback group, but the team must not have been impressed with what Hall showed on the practice field.

According to Matt Maiocco, Hall made $117,647 during his brief tenure with the team.

Hall’s release is surprising, considering he was a pretty consistant performer throughout much of his 10-year career with the Bengals and Giants. The 49ers have had one of the least effective cornerback groups in the NFL so far this season, according to Pro Football Focus.
