Krueger explains why waiting to draft a quarterback would have been a mistake

Larry Krueger is probably the biggest ‘draft guy’ in the building here at KNBR (except maybe PCon).

A former scout, you can usually trust his word on players coming out of college. We caught up with Larry in the studio to talk about the 49ers’ shiny new franchise quarterback, and he liked the move. Larry pointed out some question marks for a few of the top QB names coming out in this year’s draft.

“Sam Darnold is a redshirt sophomore,” Larry said. “He’s thrown 10 interceptions. He may go back to USC next year, he may not even be in the draft. Let’s go down the list. Josh Rosen – he’s up, he’s down. There’s people who don’t think he’s a great leader. Physically, he’s breaking down a bit. Luke Falk, Washington State. Benched twice.

“So as far as the quarterbacks coming out in the draft, there’s some good prospects. But they’re all prospects.”
