C.J. Beathard: ‘I’m not afraid of getting hit, that won’t affect me’

The 49ers aren’t winning games, but rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard continues to win converts in the 49ers locker room. The offensive line in particular appreciates Beathard’s constant ability to get up after hard hits. Beathard was hit 16 times in the 49ers’ 20-10 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.

“In the middle of a game your adrenaline is kind of going,” Beathard said. “So, it’s not until tonight, tomorrow, I really feel those hits. Physically, sometimes some are worse than others. Sometimes they hurt sometimes they dont.”

A couple of those were in the chin region, including a late hit by former 49ers safety Antoine Bethea who was called for a personal foul. The play also sparked a brawl which prompted 49ers running back Carlos Hyde, and Cardinals Hasson Riddick and Frostee Rucker to get ejected.

“That’s awesome,” Beathard said, “guys like Carlos getting ejected. It shows he’s got my back and all the other guys went at (Bethea) as well.”

Beathard said his most painful experience was striking his thumb on a helmet and not the several times he was decked.
