Draymond addresses Mark Cuban comments, Warriors’ outspokenness in talk at Harvard

After saying he was “f****** ecstatic” to do so, Warriors forward Draymond Green spoke in front of students at Harvard University on Thursday, in a wide-ranging conversation that touched on issues both on and off the court.

Green began by explaining why the Warriors as a team and organization are so uniquely outspoken, which segued perfectly into him responding for the first time to Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s recent comments, where he said that Green “owed an apology” for saying that NBA owners should not be referred to as such due to a bad connotation.

Green told the students that he’s not surprised Cuban didn’t understand what he was saying.

“To turn on the TV and see what happened in Charlottesville, he’ll never have that feeling,” Green said about Cuban. “So when I say, ‘hey maybe we shouldn’t use that word,’ to be honest I really don’t expect him to understand where I’m coming from, because he’ll never feel what I feel when I turn on the TV and see people taken down by the KKK or whatever group it was. He’ll never know that feeling I have about that.”

Green also commented on President Donald Trump disinviting the Warriors from the White House after they implied they weren’t interested in attending.

Lastly, Green took the blame for the Warriors’ slow start this season, going so far as to say that his lack of enthusiasm was the reason for the team’s early issues.

“We lost three games,” Green said. “I can honestly tell you I am the reason we lost those three games.”
