Foster criticizes fans who cheered during C.J. Beathard’s injury

49ers linebacker Reuben Foster had a few things to say about fans who cheered while rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard writhed in pain with 67 seconds left in the 49ers’ 24-13 loss to Seattle.

“It’s all about respect,” Foster said. “Our fans, I was disappointed in them. … Our fans are better than that.”

Beathard was hit by Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett who was off-sides on the play. Beathard said he felt a streak of pain run up his thigh when he was struck by Bennett on the left knee. Several players including safety Eric Reid came onto the field and took a knee beside Beathard while trainers and doctors tended to him.

“Our star quarterback is down,” Foster said. “(He’s been) making plays and really taking his body into a lot things that a quarterback shouldn’t be getting into.”

Beathard was sacked three times in the loss and hit on at least 10 other occasions. Foster also said he supports replacement quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo who threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Louis Murphy with no time left when he relieved Beathard.

“Jimmy’s a great guy, I was happy he was on the field,” Foster said. “At the same time, I have to make sure my brother on the ground is straight before I cheer for Jimmy.”
