Shanahan addresses how he’ll make decision on who starts at quarterback

SANTA CLARA – 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan wasn’t declaring who he is quarterback would be next week for the Bears’ game.

“Jimmy will have another week, we’ll watch this tape tomorrow, watch tape Monday and Tuesday put a game plan together and see what happens in practice on Wednesday.”

Beathard has an MRI scheduled on his left knee on Monday to determine damage after Seattle defensive end Michael Bennett crashed into him with 67 seconds left in the 49ers’ 24-13 loss Sunday at Levi’s.

Beathard continues to get hit often. After enduring 16 hits against the Cardinals two games ago, Beathard was sacked three times and hit on 10 other occasions. When he exited, replacement Jimmy Garoppolo scrambled for 4 yards, fired an 8-yard completion to Aldrick Robinson, and then scrambled to his left and found Louis Murphy for a 10-yard scoring strike.

Shanahan conceded that Garoppolo made a great play on the touchdown, but that Garoppolo’s brief appearance will have no impact on his decision on who starts the next game.

“(Garoppolo) was just running around and made a great play,” Shanahan said. “That will have no bearing on it at all.”
