Giants’ front office executives in Los Angeles to meet with Stanton representatives [report]

The San Francisco Giants are in hot pursuit of the 2017 National League MVP, and they’ve reportedly traveled to Los Angeles to meet with Giancarlo Stanton’s representatives.

On Thursday evening, Sirius XM radio host Craig Mish tweeted that Giants’ front office executives are in Los Angeles to meet with Stanton’s representatives, presumably to discuss Stanton’s concerns about waiving his full no-trade clause to accept a deal that would send him to San Francisco.

The Giants are considered the favorites to land Stanton by Mish and several other prominent Major League Baseball reporters, but at this point, it’s unclear whether Stanton would accept a trade to a San Francisco team that finished in last place in 2017 with a 64-98 record.

Stanton’s first preference is reportedly Los Angeles, his hometown, but it appears as though the Dodgers have not shown interest in assuming enough of the remaining $295 million left on the right fielder’s contract.

If the Giants can alleviate Stanton’s concerns about the organization’s future, and perhaps how his power would play within the cavernous confines of AT&T Park, San Francisco could be in position to move quickly on a deal.

The 28-year-old Stanton hit 59 home runs and drove in 132 runs for the Miami Marlins this season, and is under contract for the next 10 years.
