Gearrin explains why he’s involved in Giants’ pitches for Stanton, Ohtani

The Giants’ heavy hitters have already left an impression.

Bobby Evans, Brian Sabean and even Buster Posey have been involved in selling the idea of playing in San Francisco to a pair of superstars, Giancarlo Stanton and Shohei Ohtani, and now, San Francisco is awaiting their decisions.

As they wait, though, other members of the Giants’ organization are ramping up their recruitment, and reliever Cory Gearrin is one of the leading salesmen. On Tuesday evening, Gearrin joined KNBR’s Hot Stove special with Drew Hoffar & Kevin Frandsen to discuss why he’s eager to play with Stanton and Ohtani, and how energized he’s been by the Giants’ efforts to improve.

“It’s been really cool seeing all the feedback from fans here in SF and you know, got a lot of feedback from the different posts and it’s been great,” Gearrin said. “I’ve been keeping up with the whole process ever since I heard we were in on both of these guys. It’s exciting, the organization is excited about it, the fans are excited about it, so I figured I’d do my part.”

Gearrin isn’t the only Giants’ player who has taken to social media to spark the interest of the 2017 National League MVP and the two-way Japanese superstar, as right fielder Hunter Pence has also made a Twitter pitch. While Pence wouldn’t necessarily benefit from the Giants acquiring a new right fielder, Gearrin said one aspect of his everyday life as a baseball player would change for the better if Stanton came to San Francisco.

“He’s (Stanton) a righty, I always enjoy facing righties so it’s not really that,” Gearrin said. “But getting to watch that guy hit every day, especially as a reliever, you have to shag every day for BP. With a guy like that, you just watch them go over the wall. You don’t have to pick anything up. It’s much better.”
