Garoppolo caps 17-play drive with scramble drill touchdown pass

SAN FRANCISCO – If Jimmy Garoppolo hype wasn’t already through the roof, it is now.

Garoppolo took the field as a starter for the first time at Levi’s Stadium Sunday afternoon, where he looked very much at home wearing the red and gold.

Early in the second quarter against the Tennessee Titans the Eastern Illinois alumnus led the 49ers on a monster seventeen play, 85-yard touchdown drive. The drive culminated with Garoppolo extending a broken play, rolling to his right and finding Garrett Celek alone in the corner of the end zone.

Garoppolo was masterful on the drive. He converting twice on third down to keep the offense on the field, and then again for the score. He’s looked comfortable passing from the pocket with traffic around him, and has extended multiple plays with his feet before finding a receiver downfield like he did for the touchdown.

Garrett Celek has had a relatively quiet year thus far, amassing only 245 yards heading into this week. He does have four scores on the year, three of which have come in the previous five weeks. The tight end also caught Garoppolo’s only score last week when the team beat the Houston Texans.
