After leading the Oakland Raiders to a 6-10 record in 2017, quarterback Derek Carr is headed to the Pro Bowl.
While Carr suffered through a significant regression this season and experienced a serious back injury that likely hindered his ability to perform at 100 percent, the AFC needed a Pro Bowl replacement for Tom Brady and found its man in Carr.
Carr released a statement on Twitter on Monday detailing his excitement for this year’s Pro Bowl, but noted he understands there’s plenty of more work to do for the quarterback and his team to reach their goals.

After quarterbacking the Raiders to a 12-4 record in 2016, expectations were sky-high for Carr who signed one of the richest contract extensions in NFL history over the offseason. Carr failed to live up to those expectations, throwing 22 touchdowns while also tossing 13 interceptions as the Raiders’ offense struggled throughout the season.
Carr is the third quarterback in Raiders’ history to make the Pro Bowl three times, joining Ken Stabler and Rich Gannon in elite company. Carr also joins four Raiders’ teammates in the Pro Bowl as offensive linemen Kelechi Osemele, Rodney Hudson and Donald Penn and defensive end Khalil Mack were all selected.
