On Thursday morning, Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly signed a 5-year deal with the 49ers, worth $137.5 million, which would be the most expensive deal in NFL history. The deal isn’t yet official and Garoppolo hasn’t issued a proper statement, but did post a reaction on Instagram Thursday afternoon. Safe to say the 49ers’ new franchise QB is pretty stoked.
According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, $74 million of the contract is guaranteed.
Garoppolo will make $27.5 million per season, which eclipses the previous high set by Matthew Stafford’s contract with the Detroit Lions, worth $27 million per year. John Lynch has made good on his promise that signing Garoppolo was the team’s top offseason priority.
“You have our assurances – and the fans do – that we’d like nothing more than to make him a Niner for a long, long time,” Lynch said of Garoppolo.
Garoppolo is 7-0 as an NFL starter, and finished last season with a completion percentage of 67.4 for 1,560 yards with seven touchdowns, five interceptions and a passer rating of 96.2
