Durant responds to Laura Ingraham’s comments: ‘To me, it was racist’

After Kevin Durant, along with LeBron James, shared his thoughts of President Donald Trump in a video put out by UNINTERRUPTED on Thursday, it wasn’t long before Fox News host Laura Ingraham’s criticism of his comments reached the 29-year-old power forward’s ear.

“Oh, and LeBron and Kevin: You’re great players, but no one voted for you,” Ingraham said. “Millions elected Trump to be their coach. So keep the political commentary to yourself or, as someone once said, shut up and dribble.”

Durant and James joined Cari Champion and discussed the NBA, what it’s like being top athletes in their sport, and the political area, to which Durant said, “the country is not run by a great coach.”

Once he heard the backlash his comments received from Ingraham, Durant made a response while in Los Angeles for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, according to USA Today’s Sam Amick.

“To me,” Durant said. “It was racist.”

Durant went on to say that “ignorance is something I try to ignore. That was definitely an ignorant comment. I do play basketball, but I am a civilian and I am a citizen of the United States, so my voice is just as loud as hers, I think – or even louder.”
