Kerr wouldn’t rule out Curry playing this weekend, says Warriors are taking it ‘day by day’

OAKLAND — Stephen Curry continues to work his way back from a Grade 2 left MCL sprain suffered March 23. Prior to Golden State’s Game 5 matchup with San Antonio Tuesday night, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was asked whether Curry could play this upcoming weekend.

“We are just taking it day by day,” Kerr said. “So, we will see. We are locked in on tonight obviously, and Steph has been coming into the gym every day, working. And he’s doing his thing, and we are doing ours. We are just hoping for the best, but not making any predictions.”

While Kerr didn’t provide a strict timetable, he sounded more positive than Sunday, when he said “Steph is not going to play anytime soon” before Game 4.

Curry was most recently evaluated last Friday. He will be reevaluated this Friday, meaning his earliest possible return would come Saturday for a potential Game 7 matchup with San Antonio.

Curry’s return date was originally scheduled sometime in the second round. He seems right on track, with no reported setbacks. He has missed 14 straight games and 20 of the past 21 contests.
