In early June, former 49ers receiver Terrell Owens said he would not attend his 2018 Hall of Fame enshrinement at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

“After visiting Canton earlier this year,” Owens said in a public statement, “I came to the realization that I wish to celebrate what will be one of the most memorable days of my life, elsewhere.”

The decision was met with some backlash. 49ers legend Steve Young said the decision was “shocking” and “begged” Owens, who was snubbed from the Hall twice before getting the nod this year, “to reconsider” in an ESPN interview.

Owens said in that earlier statement that he would release the time and date in which he would celebrate his induction. He announced those details Tuesday morning in a Twitter post.

Owens was a standout wide receiver and track runner, and also played basketball until his senior year, at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The 49ers selected him in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft, and he went on to produce one of the most prolific careers in NFL history.

Owens played the first eight seasons of his 15-year career with the 49ers. He ascended into the upper echelon of receivers in the final four years of his 49ers tenure. His 103.6 yards per game in 2000 led the NFL. He led the league in receiving touchdowns in 2001 and 2002. From 2000-2002, Owens strung together three consecutive seasons of at least 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns. He spent the final seven years of his career with Philadelphia, Dallas, Buffalo, and Cincinnati.

Owens ranks second in 49ers history behind Jerry Rice with 8,572 career yards and 81 touchdowns. He is second in NFL history in receiving yards (15,934), third in receiving touchdowns (153), and eighth in receptions (1,078).
