Brian Wilson startled by streamer cannons during Wall of Fame reveal

SAN FRANCISCO — Brian Wilson was known for remaining calm under pressure as the Giants’ closer, finishing off big games in tense situations with a poise that belied his colorful personality. But it appears that while hitters could not faze Wilson, exploding streamers can.

After Wilson, Matt Cain, and Ryan Vogelsong unveiled their plaques on the Giants’ Wall of Fame Saturday, the team shot off streamers from a launcher near Wilson, which spooked him considerably.

To be fair, Wilson was standing in close proximity to the launcher. Still, the lack of poise under pressure was uncommon for a man who excelled in pressure situations on the field and prided himself on being a humorist off of it. Perhaps Jon Miller put it best:

“Brian Wilson, he was a closer: nothing ever fazed him. But this, yeah. Are you okay Brian?” Miller said.

“Wasn’t expecting that,” Wilson noted.

During his illustrious playing career, Wilson was a three-time All-Star who led MLB in saves with 48 in 2010. That save total tied Rod Beck for the Giants’ franchise record and helped power the Giants to an NL West division title.
