SAN FRANCISCO – Being a starting pitcher is hard enough, but imagine your Hall-of-Fame father watching you pitch in the front row at AT&T Park.
Iván “Pudge” Rodríguez, the father of Dereck Rodríguez, was sitting right next to the Giants dugout Friday night and had the fortune of not only watching his son pitch a gem but also to almost be the lucky fan to catch a foul ball.
While Pudge had the opportunity, he didn’t quite capitalize on the situation, narrowly missing the foul ball. While this is forgivable for a normal fan without a glove, Ivan has 13 Gold Gloves so you think that would even the playing field. Ivan himself even looked surprised as the ball passed through his hands, shrugging and earning a smile from his son on the mound.
Dereck’s final pitching line for the night was 6IP, 3H, 2ER, 3BB, 4K.
