Tolbert’s Beer Review: Revision Brewing’s Elevation Calculation

By

/

Alright class, please take out your pencils and some scratch paper because Tommy Tolbert is about to take you to school.

This week’s beer comes from our friends at Revision Brewing in Sparks, Nevada. Elevation Calculation is a Northeast-Style DIPA that has a math theme on the label as well as in the description:

The cool thing about balloons is that they get high. Hot air balloons get really high… in elevation.  Helping you achieve that positive lift, we present Elevation Calculation; a carefully balanced NE DIPA igniting liftoff with a buoyant blend of Mosaic, Citra and Simcoe.”

Maybe the label had math on Tom’s mind, but halfway through the beer review he went went on this math-laced tangent:

“The Pythagorean Theorem is super cool. I don’t know why it is,” Tom said. “And the Fibonacci numbers are awesome too. 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13… I could keep going but I won’t keep going. Look up the Fibonacci numbers. I don’t even know why they mean anything, they’re just kind of cool and they do mean something.

“And then a2 + b2 = c2. Again, don’t know why that works and why that means a whole bunch to everybody but engineers seem to enjoy it. I kind of enjoy it because it’s fun to say, but I enjoy beer more than I enjoy the Pythagorean Theorem.”

Got all that? Good. Enjoy responsibly.
