Jed York thought he broke his wrist punching a wall when Garoppolo tore ACL

The defining moment of the 2018 season for the San Francisco 49ers came when Jimmy Garoppolo planted his left leg late in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs, tearing his ACL in the process.

He wasn’t the only notable member of the franchise that injured himself on that fateful day.

According to a delightful little piece of journalism by NBC Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan, 49ers CEO Jed York punched a wall upon hearing that his star quarterback’s season would end early.

“It was a good punch,” York reportedly told Lee Chan. “Unfortunately, it was a stud. You’ve got to find the dry wall. That’s the key. It looks so much better to put a hole through the wall, as opposed to finding the stud.”

What a quote. It’s too bad York didn’t have a stud finder on him at the time. In addition to making it easier to put a hole through the wall he could have pulled the time-honored joke of putting stud finder on his head, pulling the trigger and exclaiming, “Looks like I found one!”

But I digress.

The most recent news we’ve heard about Garoppolo’s recovery process was when Kyle Shanahan said his quarterback was “ahead of schedule” at the NFL combine in late February.

“We don’t talk about football. But I see him out my (office) window every day. He does drops every day,” Shanahan said. “… He’s been doing a good job, but everyone says they’re ahead of schedule. He is. I mean, he’s been healing great and he hasn’t had knee trouble before.”

As far as we know Garoppolo is still on track to participate during the team’s OTA’s in June. And as far as we know, Jed York isn’t punching any more walls.
