Giants groundskeeper falls, dragged by tarp while covering the field

Tuesday night’s final exhibition game between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics was cut-short due to rain. Following the sixth inning the Oracle Park grounds crew came out to tarp the field in preparation to end the game early.

One grounds crew member took a spill while pulling the tarp, and was dragged as the rest of his team pulled him along. As he entered the infield the groundskeeper stood up under his own power to a standing ovation from the remaining fans at a rain-soaked Oracle Park.

It’s technically still spring training. If the baseball games do not count for anything, it’s probably fair for it to be the same way for the grounds crew.

It might have been the best part of Tuesday night’s game. The hilarious stumble helped the remaining fans leave happy despite the shortened game.

Fingers crossed that no other members of the Giants organization go stumbling into the 2019 season.
