Jordan Bell was suspended for Wednesday’s game, a 118-103 Warriors win over the Grizzlies, for “conduct detrimental to the team.” The Athletic published a story detailing the incident. A snippet from the story reads as follows:
“At some point on Tuesday night, Jordan Bell made a purchase at the Warriors’ team hotel here. The exact item or items and amount of the bill is unclear. What isn’t, though, is who got unknowingly charged for it: assistant coach Mike Brown.”
The general conclusion was that Bell wrongfully charged whatever he purchased to Brown’s card. But a Twitter thread, which Bell has endorsed via retweets and likes, implies the “incident” was innocuous.
The below tweet is the first of the thread.
I GOT THE REAL STORY ABOUT THE JORDAN BELL SITUATION. YOU KNOW I ALWAYS GET THE REAL. NOT WHAT IS PUT OUT BY THE TEAM. ???????

According to the above account, the Warriors rookies typically buy small purchases, such as candy bars or soda, for the veterans as a “rite of passage.” Bell jokingly got his teammates back by charging wifi, which is generally free, to teammates’ rooms. In the most recent incident, he bought a $15 candle and charged it to Brown, who apparently wasn’t in on the joke.
Bell liked every tweet in the above thread. He also retweeted an account that backed up the series of tweets.

The San Francisco Chronicle’s Connor Letourneau confirmed the validity of the series of tweets.
Just confirmed with a source close to Jordan Bell that this is a "pretty accurate account of how things went down." https://t.co/o1rgZhKhb6

When asked about the suspension, Steve Kerr had little to say. For Bell, who has struggled to build upon a promising rookie year, the suspension seemed to highlight character issues. But perhaps the entire incident was a miscommunication, and Bell meant no harm.
