Bruce Bochy’s final game in Washington D.C. ended early.
The Giants skipper grew frustrated with balls-and-strikes calls throughout the opening four innings of the Giants’ day game against the Washington Nationals Thursday. After Brandon Belt struck out looking on a fastball that appeared to be outside, Bochy had enough. He got in home plate umpire Ryan Additon’s face before being tossed from the game.
The umpiring has been questionable throughout this series, tied 1-1 entering the tiebreaker Thursday, for both teams. Belt’s strikeout marked the fourth looking strikeout from a Giant in the first five innings. Combine that with the team’s 3-0 deficit at the time, and Bochy finally cracked.
Thursday marked the first time Bochy was ejected this year. He was ejected twice last year.
Bochy, while typically mild-mannered, ranks surprisingly high on the all-time ejections list. He has been tossed 74 times, ranked ninth all time. He is second all-time behind active managers, behind only Detroit’s Ron Gardenhire.
