Klay Thompson never ceases to amaze. This year alone has featured Thompson setting the single-game 3-point record with 14 in a 52-point game against the Chicago Bulls while wearing a headband, explaining that his dog Rocco pooped on the floor of the Warriors’ hotel in Los Angeles, jumping into the Pacific Ocean to break a cold streak in the playoffs, and now, revealing that he listens to classical music, like Beethoven and Mozart, when visualizing his performances the night before a game.
Thompson was speaking about how he prepares mentally for games and that he’s taken advice from veterans and coaches like Steve Kerr, David West and Andre Iguodala, and tries to get his mind in the right setting. He spoke about how Tiger Woods tries to visualize every shot and Thompson tries to replicate that.
“That’s incredible, that’s so many golf swings,” Thompson said. “I just try to do the same approach with basketball.”
Thompson said the approach, which, for him, requires classical music or something relaxing rather than rap in order to stay relaxed in the process, has helped him move past tough stretches like the one he went through early in the year.
“When I was going through that shooting slump early in the year, I think that really helped me,” Thompson said. “It’s just nice to manifest things, man. You kind of speak it into existence. You think it into existence.”
