In a wine-filled farewell season for Bruce Bochy, it was beer that greeted him as he reached history.
Following the Giants’ 9-3 win over the Mets at Citi Field on Tuesday — the 1,000th victory of Bochy’s Giants career — the team celebrated with a clubhouse beer shower.
“Congratulations,” bench coach Hensley Meulens said, before the team aimed its beer cans at Bochy. “Got a few more wins to go for 2,000. Let’s get it for him this year.”
Bochy is now 1,000-1,003 with San Francisco, and had been 951-975 with San Diego. He has the 11th-most wins all time for managers.
“I’m blessed,” he told reporters after the game. “I made a great decision coming up here in 2007. It’s been a tremendous ride.”
