The Warriors ran out of punches to throw against the Toronto Raptors in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night, but Oracle Arena, approaching its final days as the team’s home, looked to throw one itself.
SportsNet commentators Leo Rautins and Matt Devlin, who called the game for those fans back in Canada, were watching the start of the third quarter when a near- freak accident almost occurred. As Marc Gasol took a free throw, a light fixture fell from the Oracle Arena ceiling, nearly Rautins and his stage manager sitting next to him.
“I’m trying to stay alive right here Matty,” Rautins said. “I’m not kidding you folks. I’m sitting here courtside, there is this light from the ceiling that came down and landed right here. If I leaned over this way, it’d be over, done.”
Rautins later tweeted his thoughts on the near-miss.
That s**t was crazy!! ?@Raptors
