As the click ticks ever closer towards the start of the NBA’s free agency period at 6 p.m. ET on June 30, the year-long discussions over Kevin Durant’s future have picked up another element; whether Durant trusts the Warriors organization after returning from a calf injury and tearing his right Achilles in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. According to a report by Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher earlier this week, Durant is, “pissed off” at the Warriors’ handling of his injury.
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe sat down to discuss the upcoming NBA free agency period, and Lowe asked Wojnarowski about the level of trust between Durant and the Warriors. Wojnarowski said he didn’t believe any breakdown of trust had occurred.
“If there were a breakdown in trust, you would imagine that Kevin Durant’s camp and the Warriors would not be in communication, and they have been in communication. They have talked. So, their ability to be able to talk through whatever potential issues there are and trying to go forward, I think those lines of communication are open.”
Wojnarowski continued, saying there has yet to be a talk between Durant, his business partner, Rich Kleiman, and the Warriors’ president of basketball operations Bob Myers.
“Again, does it happen, does he stay? I think that conversation has yet to really happen between Durant, Rich Kleiman, his business manager, Bob Myers and the organization. I think there’s going to be a point here where they do talk before free agency starts, but there’s no indication that they have been shunned by KD. I don’t believe that’s the case.”
