Bob Myers describes feeling ‘sad’ after conversation with Kevin Durant

Bob Myers got the chance to talk to Kevin Durant in a way that few other people did before Durant decided to sign with the Brooklyn Nets. The day before Durant’s decision was announced, Myers met with him in New York for a roughly two-hour meeting.

“It wasn’t quick. I hadn’t seen him since he’d been hurt, it was more to see how he’s been doing as a human being,” Myers said. “Kevin and I, we talked all the time in his three years here, so we talked about a lot of different things. It was probably an hour or two, life, stuff like that. I’m not gonna share all of the details, but I talked to him until I probably wasn’t allowed to talk to him a few days later.”

Myers said he and Durant left on good terms, but that didn’t soften the blow of Durant’s departure.

“It wasn’t like slamming the door,” Myers said. “To be honest, I was kind of sad. I was, because I like him.”

Aside from knowing Durant as a friend and colleague, Myers said he’ll miss watching the all-time talent play every day.

“The other thing is, I love basketball. So, just to watch him play was a treat for me, just to watch him practice, just to watch him work out,” Myers said. “I’ll miss that, just as a basketball fan. Guys like him don’t come along too often and his skillset, his ability, is so unique. I reconcile it with, I got to see him up close with three years of my life and I’ll always remember that… you really gotta appreciate guys like that.”
