The shuffling that Farhan Zaidi has been doing is not limited to the roster.
The Giants president of baseball operations let go of eight scouts, he confirmed to reporters Tuesday before the Giants played the Pirates at Oracle Park.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, longtime scout Matt Nerland is a headliner who’s been let go, as well as Brian Johnson, who hit the late-September extra-innings homer in 1997 during the pennant race.
Others let go, according to the newspaper: Steve Balboni, Darren Wittcke, Glenn Tufts, Andy Skeels, Bob Mariano and Tim Rock.
Zaidi told reporters the club still has 12 scouts and some more will come aboard, though not all of those let go likely will be replaced. Zaidi is moving the organization in a more video-focused direction.
“It’s a good group of people that have made contributions to this organization over, in some cases, long periods of time and been part of some big moments in Giants history on the field,” Zaidi told reporters, according to NBC Sports Bay Area. “It’s obviously sad in that respect, but obviously we’re really appreciative of their contributions over that time and we wish those guys the best.”
