Emmanuel Sanders discusses move to 49ers, familiarity with offense on way out of Broncos facility

In a few hours, Emmanuel Sanders will be in Santa Clara. On his way out of the Denver Broncos’ facility, CBS’ Michael Spencer talked to Sanders about his initial thoughts on the move to play for the 49ers, and what it was like leaving a team he’d been with since 2014, and who he won a Super Bowl with in 2015.

“It’s hard to break up, or you leave a place, it’s tough,” Sanders said. “You know, definitely had a great run out here in Denver, I had a lot of great times, but as you know, all good things come to an end. Looking forward to getting out to San Fran and showcasing my talent and meet the guys and hopefully add my explosiveness and capabilities to their system and try to win.”

While some skill position players have struggled to immediately adjust to Kyle Shanahan’s scheme, Sanders is coming from Broncos’ offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello, who was the 49ers’ quarterbacks coach for the past two seasons. Sanders said Scangarello told him the offense wouldn’t be dissimilar.

“Yeah, we kind of run a similar offense,” Sanders said. “I was talking to Rich [Scangarello], he was pretty much telling me that it’s the same offense, different concepts but I’ll be able to pick it up easy. Waiting on them to call me right now, get out there and get my physical.”

Sanders said the most difficult part of the move would be losing the young Broncos fans who own his jersey.

“I tell people all the time, at times this is hard, but when I think about the situation, I think about the eight-year-old kid or a 12-year-old kid that has my jersey on and I’m no longer a part of the Broncos organization,” Sanders said. “So for those those fans out there that enjoy watching me play and always brought energy and always sent me positive messages and rooted for me no matter what, the ups and downs, I really appreciate you guys. I’m forever grateful and thankful.”
