Sam Dyson’s girlfriend has accused him of being abusive toward her and his cat in multiple Instagram posts.
Alexis Blackburn said she is “broken” and has “allowed more things to happen than I want to admit” in a message Tuesday on her personal account that appears to be about Dyson, the former Giants reliever. Blackburn also runs the account for Snuckles, Dyson’s cat, and in a post from the cat’s point of view, Blackburn alleged the free agent abused both Snuckles and Blackburn.
Major League Baseball said it is aware of the allegations and is looking into the posts.
“Mom has put up with a lot and some people won’t believe her and that’s okay,” the post from Snuckles’ account reads. “This isn’t about believing a person or situation. This is about safety at this point. Mom took me to grandmas for good because unlike my previous ‘safe space,’ GRANDMAS is a safe space. I don’t have to worry about getting hurt because of anger or control. I don’t have to be scared of yelling and things being hurled at mom and me.”
The post contains two pictures, one of Snuckles on a Halloween-themed box plaything, and another of that box smashed.
“[S]omeone I trusted with my safety, protection, and love did the unthinkable while I was inside the box,” the post reads. “No one deserves to have their trust broken.”
In her personal Instagram, Blackburn suggested she has removed herself from the relationship.
“I’ve closed a chapter in my life,” she wrote. “This has been the hardest decision I have ever made, but I have to put myself before anyone else. I’m proud of myself. It takes strength and courage to speak and stand up for what’s right.”
The Giants traded for Dyson during the 2017 season, and he pitched in San Francisco until this year’s trade deadline, when they flipped him to Minnesota. Shortly after the trade, the 31-year-old needed surgery to repair a torn capsule in his right shoulder. He’s not expected to pitch in 2020 and is a free agent.
