NaVorro Bowman compares this year’s 49ers to 2012 Super Bowl team: ‘This team is way more together’

NaVorro Bowman is hoping this year’s Super Bowl goes a lot better for the 49ers than when he donned the red & gold in 2012.

San Francisco came out extremely flat in their 34-31 loss to the Ravens, yet still found themselves five yards away from the end zone at the end of the game. Bowman said he doesn’t expect that to happen again on Sunday, and pointed to the differences between the two teams as a reason why.

“I’d say the difference between this team and our team, is there’s not one guy on this team that is about me,” Bowman said. “I don’t know if it was the eras we came up in or whatever but I think having Kyle and John be fresh and new and them not taking BS early on, showing that they’ll get you out of here, that all played a part on getting this team to play on one accord.

“Whereas the team we had, we had guys getting paid early. We had guys getting paid that didn’t deserve it. We had guys getting in trouble. We had a lot of stuff that didn’t have anything to do with football affect our team and it showed on the field. I won’t say that this team is better, but I will say this team is way more together than we were and it’s allowing them to get right back where they are.”

Bowman’s Niners were certainly not as focused as this year’s squad in the lead up to the game, with Chris Culliver making headlines for comments about anti-gay players. Nothing of the sort has come out this week.
