Watch Joey Bart launch home run in first spring training at-bat

Well, that didn’t take long.

If there was buzz surrounding the possibility of Joey Bart starting the season on the San Francisco Giants’ opening day roster, it took just one spring training game to get a bit louder. One at-bat, to be specific.

The second-overall pick in the 2018 draft launched an opposite field home run in his first plate appearance of the spring, taking Dodgers pitcher Luis Vasquez yard in the seventh inning.

The Giants have said they would like the 23-year-old, who missed significant time last season with hand injuries, to get more minor league reps before he joins the big-league team. Though if neither Tyler Heineman nor Rob Brantly is impressive — and San Francisco doesn’t pick up a veteran catcher cast off by another team — Bart is beginning to make his argument.

Bart launched 16 home runs in 79 games while splitting time between Single and Double-A last season.
