That’s right. It’s both shocking and simultaneously completely in character. According to Andrew Baggarly and Zach Buchanan of The Athletic, Madison Bumgarner has long been competing in competitive rodeo events under the alias, “Mason Saunders.”
According to Baggarly, and the photos from the Facebook page of Rancho Rio Arena, Bumgarner and his partner, Jaxson Tucker, a professional rider, won $26,500 in a joint event last December, though Bumgarner is listed in the photos as “Mason Saunders.”
Bumgarner has long been competing in these competitive “team-roping events” under that Mason alias, which Bumgarner told Baggarly was a nickname given to him by his wife, Ali, as a disambiguation of his first name.
