SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Oracle Park workers will not be forgotten.

All 30 clubs, the Giants included, will be contributing $1 million each to help the ballpark employees affected by the delayed start to the MLB season, commissioner Rob Manfred announced Tuesday.

The Giants’ statement said that in “addition to the $1 million pledged by the club, the Giants will ask its ownership group and business partners to also support this effort.”

The details are still being finalized, but the event staff at Oracle Park will be compensated.

“Our event staff is the heart and soul of Oracle Park,” Giants CEO Larry Baer said in the statement. “During these challenging times, we want to provide peace of mind and support to our event staff employees so they can focus on their family and loved ones.”

The season has been pushed back until at least mid-May, and likely later, in response to the growing coronavirus threat that would be worsened by groups of people at ballparks.

“I am proud that our clubs came together so quickly and uniformly to support these individuals who provide so much to the game we love,” Manfred said in his statement.

The Warriors also pledged $1 million to help the staff at Chase Center. For the Giants, it is a nice start for the club to show it cares about the other people affected by the shutdown. Next up: minor leaguers?
