Which Giants team was the best? Jon Miller discusses

There have been some great San Francisco Giants teams since the club made the move west in 1958. Jon Miller has seen them all.

On Wednesday Miller joined Papa & Lund on Wednesday and was asked which Giants team he thought was best. Miller had a hard time choosing between the title winning teams in 2010 and 2012, but ultimately leaned toward the latter.

“I have to go with the 2010 or 2012, either one of those teams,” Miller began. “In 2010 they had Lincecum and Cain, they have two aces at the top of the rotation, and those guys were lights out the whole postseason. Cain never gave up an earned run the whole postseason, and Lincecum had that 1-0 win the first game of the postseason with 14 strikeouts, and then he beat Cliff Lee who was one of the great pitchers in postseason history for the World Series championship. Just shut him down.

“And then 2012, how can you not go with that team? They were forever up against the wall. They did something that no team has ever done: They had to win three straight elimination games in the Division Series on the road, and they did. That’s one of the most extraordinary turns in baseball history, and they did it again in the League Championship Series and then they swept the Tigers in the World Series, even though they were prohibitive underdogs.

“I don’t want to shortchange any of those other Giants teams, but for me they won it all, had two total studs, aces at the top of the rotation, and in the biggest games of the year they stepped it up, they were better than they had ever been.”
