Where Giants rank in latest Forbes MLB valuations

There’s good reason that the Giants have been leaders in ensuring their event staff is compensated during this shutdown, having dedicated $1.7 million to the group so far. After all, they have the money.

The franchise is valued at $3.1 billion, according to Forbes’ latest valuation, making the team the fifth most valuable in all of baseball, behind the Yankees ($5 billion), Dodgers ($3.4B), Red Sox ($3.3B) and Cubs ($3.2B).

The Giants held on to their No. 5 spot from last year, when the magazine estimated they were worth an even $3 billion.

Forbes approximated the average MLB team is worth $1.85 billion, which is 4 percent more than last year — the smallest increase since 2010, when the average value increased 2 percent. So in theoretical value at least, Major League Baseball is being affected by the coronavirus, which has shut down so many walks of life and has the league and Players Association desperate for an avenue that leads to real, actual baseball this year.
