Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson like to have a good time.
Case in point: The two former Golden State Warriors standouts have a podcast called “All the Smoke” where they sit around, smoke weed and talk about basketball in a highly entertaining, unfiltered fashion.
Last week they made headlines when Draymond Green joined the program, and revealed a ton of fascinating tidbits from Kevin Durant’s final season in Golden State. This week the content centered around them, and a hilarious story of what the Warriors did after they upset the No.1 seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs in 2007.
Instead of synthesizing, let’s hear it from the first-hand sources:
Barnes: “We go to [Stephen Jackson’s] house. Drink, smoke, who was there?”
Jackson: “Baron had Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba and Owen Wilson was there as well. The party started at my house.”
Barnes: “We chill at Jax’s then we go upstairs. [Don Nelson] has the whole floor of Jax’s complex…the penthouse, the whole roof was his. We go up there and all we hear is ‘Fellas! Woody Harrelson is in the back rolling doobies!’ And we look at each other like, ‘what the fuck?’ He was always cool, he knew we smoked but I didn’t know he didn’t care that everyone else knew.
“So another person that happened to be in town was Snoop, he came to the game.”
Jackson: “D-O-double-G!”
Barnes: “He told me to hit him up when we get done. We go to the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco. This is just when he had dropped ‘The Blue Carpet Treatment’.”
Jackson: “The Ritz Carlton now. Remember what hotel we say we going to.”
Barnes: “We in there, obviously we start smoking. Snoop would break the shit up, roll it, hit it one time, and pass it.”
Jackson: “50 box of Swishers.”
Barnes: “And start going on another one. We had like two blunts in our hands, getting one passed to us. It was like the most epic smoking session ever. Like crazy. My sister got so high, she didn’t even smoke. She passed out from a contact high. Fell asleep on the couch.
“Then we ordered everything off the menu.”
Jackson: “So room service brings the food in, right? You can’t see because it’s so smoked out. Remember we’re in the Ritz Carlton. After they bring the food and leave, they come right back and knock on the door.”
Barnes: “It’s a hard knock. We’re still in season. As players when you hear that heavy knock, like that police knock it’s like…..”
Jackson: “‘Oh shit. Goddamn it’s security.’ Man these motherfuckers come in the room, ‘Excuse me, how y’all doin?’ Open windows, unscrew the windows so the smoke can go out.”
Barnes: “Told us, ‘Good game, wassup Snoop, and let them know if we need anything.’”
Jackson: “We get that knock, they’d come and pull us out the hotel. With Snoop, they come open the windows for him, the locked windows.”
Barnes: “Unscrew windows in the Ritz.”
