It was Barry Zito as you’ve never seen him before.
Right, right, whatever, he was dressed up as a rhinoceros. But also he wore a Dodgers cap!
The former Bay Area standout — first with Oakland, where he was a three-time All-Star, then as a part of Giants World Series clubs in 2010 and ’12 — showed off the new proverbial hat he is wearing Wednesday night, before the literal hat that will make San Francisco fans squirm.
The musician was revealed to be the rhino on FOX’s “The Masked Singer,” which was not stunning if you follow The Athletic’s Grant Brisbee.
“I had such a great time, this show has stretched me in so many ways,” said Barry Zito, giant rhinoceros mask in hand, in a moment that indeed happened.
SCANDAL.

That was not the surprise of the night, though. Zito, appearing on the after-show on video from a plane, adorned a Dodgers cap. It was not one he wore in his 15-year career, but perhaps he can now allow himself to be a fan, having went to both UC Santa Barbara and UCLA. The Earth will probably keep spinning. Probably.
Thank you @MaskedSingerFOX for the opportunity to push through lots of discomfort. Had the best time ever!! pic.twitter.com/cPZ3LKXaav
