Watch newest Giant Patrick Bailey’s monster bat flip after towering home run

One thing we know about Giants first-round pick Patrick Bailey that isn’t apparent on the stat sheet: The kid has some flair.

Exhibit A: A game tying, eight inning home run the catcher hit during his sophomore season vs. local rival Charlotte, that was almost as impressive as the monster bat flip that followed it. The dinger helped keep NC State undefeated, and provided Bailey with a signature moment.

Still, Bailey wanted to make clear that he’s not normally the bat flipping type, when he spoke to Bay Area media for the first time shortly after the Giants selected him with the 13th overall pick in Wednesday’s draft.

“No definitely not,” Bailey said when asked if he’s a frequent flipper. “That was interesting. We were down in Charlotte at Knights Stadium, and I remember we were down 4-1 with three guys on and it was a 2-1 count. It was the first time I was ever like ‘If I get this, I’m going to…’ I don’t know. And as soon as I hit it I remember reacting, and thinking ‘they probably wasn’t the most classy thing,’ but it was fun.”

He might not be proud of it now, but it’s a highlight that’s enough to get Giants fans excited in a time when baseball fans need excitement more than ever.
