LOS ANGELES — Add another name to the fliers to know.

The Giants traded for young outfielder Luis Basabe from the White Sox on Sunday, giving up just cash and a pool spot, which was left open by newly acquired pitcher Jordan Humphreys being placed on the Restricted List. Humphreys’ situation was immediately unclear.

Basabe, a 23-year-old from Venezuela whom Chicago had designated for assignment last week, was the No. 11 prospect in its organization, according to MLB Pipeline. Basabe was one of the prospects whom the Red Sox turned into Chris Sale, and Basabe hit a home run in the 2018 Futures Game.

He had not progressed past the White Sox’s Double-A affiliate, though, and a prospect regarded for solid power and speed did not have impressive numbers in 69 games last year at Double-A: .246/.324/.336.

Basabe will report to the Giants’ alternate site in Sacramento, where he will begin learning under coaches they hope can turn talent into results.
