Joey Bart makes tumbling catch in foul territory

Web gem alert.

Earlier this week former Giant catcher Stephen Vogt went on the leader and said he thinks Joey Bart “is going to be a really good catcher for a very long time.” This weekend his prediction got off to a good start.

In the top of the fifth with the score knotted at zeros Vogt chopped at a fastball and sent it spinning high in the air towards the Giants bench. With the infield shifted to the right side it would’ve been a tough play for Evan Longoria at full sprint.

But Longoria didn’t get the chance to make the play. The Giants’ 23-year-old star prospect beat Longoria to the spot and made a tumbling catch before the ball hit the ground.

Here’s another angle:

The Georgia Tech product recorded a hit in his first three games in San Francisco (all doubles) while scoring a run and knocking one in during the process. He has yet to record an error during his short stint in the majors.
