Draymond Green has a reputation for being a coach on the floor, and that basketball IQ has been on display during his fill-ins on ‘Inside the NBA.’
Green provided an excellent film breakdown during Thursday’s show, specifically calling out Denver center Nikola Jokic for his lack of defensive effort.
“He has to be better defensively,” Green said while breaking down a play from the first half of the Nuggets-Clippers playoff game. “Patrick Beverley is going to beat Torrey Craig behind the half-court line. This is an easy rotation here. You see it from a mile away, this is simple effort. Stop the ball. He does this constantly.
“You have to make an impact at the rim if (the Nuggets are) going to be successful, and he has not done that tonight, he has not done that all year. If they are going to win, he must protect the rim a little better, and it’s not much to do with his athleticism.”
It wasn’t just Jokic he took to task, however, also explaining why the Milwaukee Bucks are in trouble.
“I’m not sure what the Bucks can do,” Green said. “They’re surrounding Giannis (Antetokounmpo) with shooters, but Miami isn’t respecting those shooters. And so if they’re not respecting, they’re just going to continue to load up on Giannis. It’s trouble.”
Green is so good at this he will certainly have a full time job as an analyst whenever he retires, and is showing he’s talented enough to start right now.
