Giants offer hope for fans in stands next year in thank-you message

The Giants’ thank-you letter to fans for support throughout the 2020 season includes optimism for those who want to see the action up-close next year.

After a 60-game season that started poorly, rose drastically with a 21-15 run but ended in heartbreak with three straight losses when one win would have advanced them into October, the Giants reflected on the “successful completion” of their campaign in a message to fans sent out Monday.

This season did not include any COVID-19 true positive tests, play getting postponed for what is believed to have been a false positive, wildfire smoke and as a social-justice protest, but the pandemic was warded off by careful protocols that were carefully enforced. It also did not include any fans in the stands.

“We are already deep into plans for next year, including developing health and safety protocols to create the safest possible environment for your return to Oracle Park,” said the message signed by CEO Larry Baer, president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and manager Gabe Kapler.

The group said they are “proud” of everything they stood for and against and the jobs it took from everyone to pull off this season, saying the word “resilience” followed the team around, not just on the field, with 14 come-from-behind wins, but off as well.

Zaidi already has publicly stated the goal is now to reach the postseason after falling a tiebreaker short this year. That is cranking up expectations that had been dialed to “Progress” throughout the Zaidi regime.

“On that last day, we had every reason to expect great things,” the letter stated. “We have every reason to expect them now and next season and the season after that, and we know you do, too.”
