49ers Inactives: Nick Mullens gets his job back

Nick Mullens has re-claimed the backup quarterback gig. After being benched two weeks ago in a startlingly poor performance against the Philadelphia Eagles and C.J. Beathard replacing him as the backup last week against the Miami Dolphins, the 49ers have returned to the status quo from last year and the start of this season, leaving Mullens active and Beathard inactive.

Both Beathard (unrestricted) and Mullens (restricted) are free agents this offseason, and the team has the option to offer a restricted free agent tender to Mullens, potentially to recoup a draft pick. They reportedly received calls about him this offseason, and aside from simply preferring him as the backup quarterback, his market value may be part of the calculation.

The remaining decisions are relatively unsurprising, with Dante Pettis being left as inactive for the second-straight game. Richie James Jr. was promoted to the active roster from injured reserve this week and Kevin White was activated from the practice squad for the second-straight week. Tom Compton was also made inactive, along with a number of injured players. The full list is below:

  • WR Dante Pettis
  • QB C.J. Beathard
  • G Tom Compton
  • DL Darrion Daniels
  • CB Dontae Johnson (groin)
  • LB Kwon Alexander (ankle)
  • RB Jeff Wilson Jr. (calf)
