SAN FRANCISCO – Building on a tremendous partnership, the University of San Francisco athletics department and Cumulus San Francisco’s sports talk radio powerhouse KNBR 1050 The Sports Leader (KTCT-AM) announced today the two sides have renegotiated their multi-year agreement.

The partnership ensures the San Francisco-based all-sports radio station will continue to be the flagship station for USF Dons men’s basketball. KNBR 1050 will once again carry all games, pregame and postgame shows, and the weekly Hilltop Hoops Hour hosted by the voice of the Dons’ Pat Olson. New this season, an additional segment of the Coach Golden Minute will appear in the afternoons on the popular Tolbert, Krueger, and Brooks show.

“We are thrilled to expand on our partnership with KNBR,” said Director of Athletics, Joan McDermott. “I want to thank the entire team at Cumulus San Francisco and USF Board of Trustee member and alumnus Jack Boland from Baker Street Advertising for their help in getting us back on the air! Despite the challenges this season has already faced, we are all eagerly counting down the days to hear Pat (Olson) calling the first Dons’ game in less than three weeks.”

“The KNBR team couldn’t be more excited to extend this partnership with USF Athletics,” said Jeremiah Crowe, Program Director of KNBR 104.5-FM, 680-AM & KNBR 1050-AM. “We look forward to bringing expanded coverage of Dons basketball back to the local airwaves and our loyal listeners in a few short weeks.”

Olson will be on the mic for his 30th season calling USF men’s basketball. The longtime voice of the Dons was honored last season for calling his 1,000th career USF Athletic event last season when the Dons defeated Yale in overtime. He began calling USF basketball games in 1991-92 and has amassed a streak of 536 consecutive games broadcast. He also is the lead voice for USF’s women’s volleyball and takes on assignments with the Dons’ soccer and baseball programs. Olson, a radio staple for Bay Area sports fans, has been involved in sports media for over 25 years and served as Sports Director at KNBR 680-AM in San Francisco from 1993-2001.
