Raheem Mostert gets emotional talking about being away from his family this season

Raheem Mostert’s return should’ve been a cause for celebration, but in this bizarre 2020 season, even the good days are bittersweet.

That’s especially true for Mostert, who is playing the 2020 season away from his wife and two young children, who stayed behind in the Cleveland area as a safety precaution due to COVID. If that wasn’t tough enough, Mostert has been relegated to just five games this season due to injuries.

After Sunday’s 23-20 win over the Rams, in which he returned to the field after missing over a month, Mostert was overcome with emotion when reflecting on the season.

“It’s been a struggle, not having my little family. Sorry if I get a little emotional,” Mostert said over Zoom when addressing the media.

“It’s really tough, I miss them so much. It’s a fight out here everyday. You’re fighting for your life. I just want people to understand that. It’s just not football players, it’s the whole organization. It’s everybody. People have to make sacrifices out here. I sacrificed to leave my family behind so that way I can make a living for them.”

Making matters even more difficult, the 49ers have now been banned by Santa Clara County from playing or practicing at their traditional home, meaning they will have to spend the remainder of the season playing and practicing elsewhere.
