Marcus Spears: Dak Prescott should want out of Dallas, 49ers ‘would love’ to have him

Jerry Jones loves chaos, or he’s a masochist. Hey, why not both?

The overlord of the Dallas Cowboys, we’re assuming while wearing that signature snake oil salesman grin, made a pointed comment about his franchise quarterback. The Cowboys could not agree to a long-term deal with Prescott this offseason, and he played this year on the franchise tag. Prescott suffered a season-ending compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle this season and will be a free agent, unless the Cowboys tag him again (which is likely).

Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that Prescott was bound to get injured and that “he has to” evolve and get down before contact.

“I’ve always known that he couldn’t do that like that for long in the NFL,” Jones said. “You can’t do that… You can’t count on that.”

NFL analyst Marcus Spears responded on ESPN, saying that Prescott should want out of Dallas. Pressed for a dream destination, he suggested the 49ers, who can cut Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason and save $24.1 million. The franchise tag for quarterbacks in 2020 was $26.9 million and will likely be similar to that next year.

“There’s a team on the West Coast with a coach named Kyle Shanahan and a GM named John Lynch that would love to have Dak Prescott running that offense,” Spears said. “The San Francisco 49ers, yeah.”

Immediately, Adam Schefter threw Spears under the bus.

“I’ll say this, that’s the very first time I’ve heard Dak Prescott connected to the 49ers,” Schefter said. “But I like it.”
