Despite what they say, the 49ers are going to look at replacing Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason. That’s not a guarantee that they will change quarterbacks, but it’s firmly on the table. Garoppolo has been healthy for roughly half the time possible over the last three years, and while he wins at a prolific rate, he has underwhelmed and frustrated head coach Kyle Shanahan consistently.
San Francisco has the 12th overall pick and will likely start the 2021 NFL Draft with 10 total picks. One of the likely top-10 picks is BYU quarterback Zach Wilson.
Wilson had a BYU TV interview on Wednesday and was asked what NFL teams he felt he’d be a good fit with. His immediate answer? The 49ers.
“I haven’t watched a ton of specifics with NFL teams as far as what offenses they run,” Wilson said. “One just off the top of my head is the 49ers, because I’m very familiar with what Kyle Shanahan does and the system that they have in place and I think I’d fit in well there.”

Wilson also mentioned the Carolina Panthers and offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who worked with Joe Burrow, who has the same agent as Wilson. He said he hadn’t watched Panthers tape, but liked what Brady did with Burrow.
