Draymond Green ejected in final seconds as Warriors choke in bizarre, Curry-less loss to Hornets

Did you watch that game? If you did, well, it’s probably time for a beer. That was college basketball. Turnovers and fouls were rampant, no one seemed capable of making a shot, and the most entertaining player on either side was inexplicably absent because he didn’t feel right just before tip off.

The Warriors seemed on the verge of winning, ready to take advantage of the Hornets’ comically bad turnover woes. But in the end, the Warriors took a 102-100 loss to a team which tied the league-high with 25 turnovers.

And all it took for the Warriors to choke away a 10-point lead with 4:44 remaining was a jump ball.

After the referees put the game on ice for a few minutes, struggling to sort out the jump ball, Green thought he forced another one, but instead, the Hornets were given a timeout, and Green, who tore into the officials, found himself ejected. He also provided a pair of free throws for Terry Rozier, who tied the game, and then won the game with this shot at the buzzer.

Rozier, by the way, put up 36 points, and was a ridiculous 8-of-11 from three.

We could talk about how Kelly Oubre had another solid game, or how the Warriors battled back, but this game should only be remembered for being at its core, truly weird.

Stephen Curry, after being announced in the starting lineup, walked off the court just moments before the tip and was scratched with the reason that he wasn’t feeling well, but unrelated to COVID-19. The Warriors somehow seemed like they were going to stumble to the finish line without him. But when Draymond Green combusted, he took the win with him.
