MLB releases list of Giants’ Top 30 prospects for 2021

We’ve got an idea by now where the Giants’ top prospects stand among the rest of the league heading into 2021, but what about internally? MLB released the top 30 prospect lists for all 30 teams on Thursday morning, and the Giants’ list looks a whole lot like last year’s.

The biggest difference isn’t much of a surprise, with Marco Luciano taking the top spot over Joey Bart as he finds himself on some top 10 lists of the best prospects in baseball. All in all, the top 10 consists of the same players as 2020, with the lone exception being RHP Sean Hjelle falling to No. 11 and 2020 third round pick, LHP Kyle Harrison, climbing to No. 8.

The Giants’ top 10 features four first-round picks — Bart, Hunter Bishop, Heliot Ramos and Patrick Bailey — and four international signings — Luciano, Alexander Canario, Luis Toribo and Luis Matos. The Giants are also getting closer to an even split of quality pitching and hitting prospects, with 12 and 18 respectively in the top 30. They had just 10 on last year’s list.

The biggest leap comes via 1B Garrett Frechette, a 2019 draft pick who is ranked No. 21 after not sniffing the list last year. The biggest drop off is Jaylin Davis, whose inability to make contact at the big league level last season saw him fall from 13 to 26.
