While the 49ers made a franchise-altering trade which stole the headlines on Friday morning, there was another piece of substantial news. Defensive tackle Kevin Givens, 24, who had stood out last season, is under trial on a charge of second degree assault.

That charge was first reported by TMZ.com and has been verified by KNBR. According to court records, Givens’ trial was scheduled to start on Friday, March 26 at 9:15 a.m., after an incident which occurred on February 21.

Per TMZ, according to reported court documents, the complainant, Matthew Bosley, accused Givens of assaulting him in a Sheraton Hotel and dislocating his shoulder along with other injuries, resulting in an emergency room visit for medical treatment.
